The waters of Ibiza are home to a wealth of adventure and activity. The crystal-clear waters somehow conceal rocks and coves where intriguing geological and marine treasures await exploration, while the calm surface of the Mediterranean sea beckons holidaymakers to surge across it. Ibiza has some of the best beaches for water sports in Ibiza on the Mediterranean. The coast of this Balearic beauty is its life and soul. Year in, year out throngs of locals, tourists, and sun-worshippers saunter down to the sandy and rocky shores to immerse in the gentle hum of its beautiful beaches.

Some prefer to lay back and soak up the sun from a sun lounger, occasionally recharging their capacity for heat with a cooling dip in the sea. Others recline into lazy lunches on terraces where the zephyr gently caresses clammy skin. Some, though, seek thrills and merriment in the limpid waters of the Balearic Sea; darting from one high-octane event to the next. With this guide to the best beaches in Ibiza for water sports, you can find blissful activities to undertake along this inimitably attractive stretch of coastline.

The bay of San Antonio on Ibiza’s west coast offers most of the island’s best water-based activities. There are a number of excellent beaches to explore in this sweeping bay.

Snorkelling the turquoise waters of Cala Salada

Cala Salada is an unspoilt cove that is often cited as one of the most beautiful beaches in Ibiza. While the natural beauty that surrounds this beach is a big part of the reason people visit it, the main event is undoubtedly the stunningly clear waters that lap against this beach. Pine-crested hills give way to rose-hued rock before the jagged faces disappear beneath the surface of the sea. It is at the foot of these cliffs that you will find some stunning snorkelling spots; an underwater world of cascading and tumbling rocks that ease into the sandy shallows of the beach. The nooks and crannies provided by the rocks are perfect for the flourishing sea life.

The gently sloping beach also means that this beach is ideal for families. We recommend that you go later in the day, when the weather is cooler and access less strenuous. As this beach is on the west coast of the island, the sunsets are simply spectacular. Don’t forget to pack a picnic and drinks!

Water jets and speed boats on Platja de S’Estanyol, San Antoni

S’Estanyol Beach boasts a dizzying array of water sports and gadgets for endless days of racing, splashing, carving, and even flying through the azure water! Ibiza Watersports, which is cradled into the stillness of San Antoni bay, offers perfect conditions for the activities that are available here. Our favourite of these activities is the Flyboard. Fasten yourself in for the ride of a lifetime, as the water jets launch you into the sky before you plunge back down, mimicking the motion of a gracefully swimming dolphin. This is one of the most exciting and best beaches for water sports in Ibiza.

The real thrill-seekers can also take on the challenges of the banana boat, the Flyfish, or the doughnuts. Feel the rush, as the wake of the boat rattles by beneath your chosen mode of transport and the wind whips through your hair. For those seeking more languid pursuits, you can also rent speed boats for day trips. Take the boat out at sunset to watch the famous Ibizan sunset set the sky ablaze in a display of phenomenal natural wonder.

Scuba diving off the shores of Santa Eulalia

Slightly back from the beach of Santa Eulalia in the town of Santa Eulària des Riu you will find the Aqua Diving Centre, which offers an exceptional service for divers of all levels. One of the island’s most fascinating dives lies just off the coast along the Santa Eulalia reef. This rocky shelf is alive with sea life and offers dives up to 30m in depth. The most fascinating dive is The Lighthouse, which is a sunken beacon once used to warn ships of the shallow reef where fish have made themselves at home.

Cala Xarraca’s perfect waters for swimming and snorkelling

While Ibiza’s beaches can cater for idle summer days, there are also those that are a glove fit for the intrepid souls who come to this island. Cala Xarraca is a veritable paradise, where the transparent waters entice snorkelers and swimmers. Spend the day scouring the seafloor with your mask, snorkel, and flippers making you feel at one with the sea. The semi-submerged rocks that pepper this small bay make it one of the best spots for submarine exploration. This is one of the quieter and slower beaches on our list of the best beaches for water sports in Ibiza.

Boat trips launched from Las Salinas

Whilst boat trips aren’t strictly water sports, they are often interspersed with snorkelling and swimming. Either way, we simply love to board a boat and embark for the islands of S’Espalmador and Formentera. The views from the boat are striking and dramatic, offering an entirely new perspective of the Balaeric Islands.

Launch your boat from the trendy and vibrant beach of Las Salinas at Ibiza’s southernmost tip. With the seasoned and knowledgeable skipper at the helm and a free bar available, you will feel completely at ease.
