In the heart of Provence, one of the most picturesque regions in all of France, lies a hidden gem: Luberon. With three of its own mountain ranges and an elevation of 1,256 metres, it is full of rolling hills.  When visiting the Luberon, things to do are in plentiful supply, from beautiful hikes, to vineyards and lavender fields, you will never be bored.

We have made a list of our favourite Luberon things to do and we hope that this will inspire you to take a trip to one of the beautiful untouched corners of France.

Abbey de SenaNque

The Senanque Abbey is one of the most picturesque examples of lavender in all of Provence. The monks from the Abbey grow the bright violet blooms in the field surrounding the monastery. It is an iconic view! Leisurely walking around the paths that surround the lavender fields and inhaling the heavenly scent is one of our favourite things to do in Provence. It is impossible not to love the calm and tranquil atmosphere of the lavender and the abbey.

Auberge La Fenière

The Luberon is no stranger to fine dining - with a large selection of Michelin star restaurants in the small region, you will be spoilt for choice in this luxury restaurant. Our top pick is the brainchild of one of France's most revered female chefs Reine Sammut. The culinary queen herself has designed the Michelin Star restaurant alongside her daughter Nadia. Their Mediterranean style designed menu completely avoids gluten, making it a top choice for those attempting to cut out the grain.

Outdoor Activities

The plentiful nature that is on your doorstep in the Luberon is host to many an outdoor activity. You can work up an appetite for a picnic lunch with a long hike through the hills and around the lakes. But an afternoon that is always well-spent is one on the water. Fly-fishing is not just an activity for your Dad, but one that appeals to the whole family. Learning how to catch a fish and grilling it for your supper is one of life's greatest pleasures.

Or take a cue from the experts to find the treasure hidden in the land! Follow fido's snout that will guide you through the process of  the fine art of cultivating and hunting for the area's famous black truffle that are highly prized in the culinary world.

Best-kept Secret

According to Luberon locals, the best-kept secret of the region is the charming village of Oppede le Vieux and its pottery gallery. A well-tucked away pottery workshop and gallery celebrating local artists, this is not one to miss! Not a lot has changed in this beautiful village since Medieval times but that just adds to the magic. Husband and wife team Olivia Tregaut and Denis Bouliard teamed up to run their ceramic business, specialising in pottery and detailed animal sculptures. Make sure you are time to visit this special enterprise.
