On the northwestern coast of Corsica, the town of Calvi is known for its crescent-shaped bay, picturesque marina, and sandy beaches, as well as its human-made beauty. It’s home to a magnificent, towering medieval citadel; the St-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral, a splendid example of Baroque architecture; and charming cobblestone streets, with tree-covered mountains standing proud in the distance.
Down by the harbour, restaurants line the Quai Landry esplanade. Some of the best include Le Comptoir, Le Comme Chez Soi, and Umami.
As an amusing side note about Calvi, it is thought to be the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, at least among many Corsicans. Not that the history books that taught us that he hailed from Genoa were wrong: from the 13th to the 18th century, Calvi was part of the Genoese Maritime Empire.
Despite that history, and the commune’s many cafés, bars, bistros, and shops, it remains a small town. The selection of luxury villas in Calvi, Corsica, is limited, and they tend to book up, especially in the summer music festival season. Now is the time to start exploring our collection of Calvi villa rentals to find the perfect one for you.
Villa Pietragalla
Located in the countryside, to the northeast of the airport, Villa Pietragalla offers the best of all possible worlds. It’s quiet, surrounded by greenery, and blessed with abundant views over the Mediterranean. You’ll wake to the sound of birdsong, cool off in the afternoon with the sea breezes that waft up the hill, and end the afternoon with a vibrant sunset over the swimming pool.
At the same time, Villa Pietragalla’s location, near Lumio, puts it within a 15-minute drive of the town centre and all that it has to offer. The beach is also within easy driving distance.
The villa is constructed of sand-coloured stone and decorated with soothing colours. It’s traditional in style and not lacking for any comforts. There are ample indoor and outdoor sitting and dining areas. The six bedrooms accommodate 13 guests; most of them have double beds for couples but one has three single beds for children.
Chances are, however, that you’ll decide to savour most of the holiday with everyone gathered together around the private pool. Low and tall palm trees sway around the edges of the pool terrace, and there are many lounge chairs in the sun and the shade. Along with the sea views, you can take in the lights of Calvi and the plants, flowers, and rocks of the surrounding hills.
Villa Rossi
Another exquisite villa with stone walls in the traditional Corsican style, Villa Rossi has an architecture that is classic Mediterranean. There are red terracotta tile roofs and several covered terraces. It is a place for indoor-outdoor living at its finest.
The terrace overlooking the bay of Calvi is particularly inviting. Imagine yourself starting the day with your friends and family gathered around the long, sunny table, with a lavish Corsican breakfast at the ready: freshly squeezed orange juice (perhaps even from the orange trees on the property), fruits, pastries, yogurts, and anything else your heart desires.
Inside, the look of Villa Rossi is modern and understated, with a soothing colour palette that brings to mind the sea and sand. Botanical-inspired art hangs on the walls. The sun-filled kitchen is a dream for anyone who likes to prepare simple island-style meals for their families.
As is the case with Villa Pietragalla, a major focal point is the outdoor swimming pool. It has panoramic sea views, and its clever location just below the dining terrace allows parents to keep an eye on their little ones while savouring their morning coffee or sipping a sundowner at the end of a memorable day.
There are five bedrooms, which comfortably sleep a total of ten people, whether children or adults. Four of the rooms have double beds, while the fifth has two single beds and shares a bathroom with one of the larger rooms. Some of the bathrooms have Jacuzzi tubs for soothing soaks.
Villa Pietra
The smallest of Le Collectionist’s luxury villas in Calvi, Villa Pietra is also near Lumio, just a short drive from the beaches, restaurants, and shops of town, and even within walking distance of a few options for food. Its standout feature is its dramatic infinity swimming pool, which has views over the bay and the Mediterranean Sea.
The house has four bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom, making it a good choice for a family with children or a group of adult friends travelling on holiday together. There are plenty of spaces to enjoy time together or to savour a few moments of privacy in this villa on your luxury France holidays.
It is most likely, though, that everyone will want to spend their time together around the pool. There’s an outdoor living room at one end, and at the other there are lounge chairs that can be wheeled around, so that the sun-worshippers and the sun-averse can all be happy together. The pool is also a perfect spot to take in one of the beautiful sunsets that can light up the evening skies during a summer in Corsica.
