Go on an adventure for a long weekend by heading to the peninsula of Cap Ferret. On the program: walks in the middle of the dunes, sun-bathing afternoons and meals with your feet in the water. Follow the guide for an exceptional visit to Cap Ferret, France.
DAY 1: VISIT CAP FERRET WITH REGULARS
A favorite destination for our clients, a Cap Ferret holiday is a summer must-have. And its not a surprise: because as soon as you arrive on this piece of land surrounded by salt water, you feel at home. Between family houses and surf-aperitif rituals, find all our favorite addresses to visit Cap Ferret as if you had always been there.
10am: wake up at the Villa du Cap
Play Ferret regulars at Villa du Cap. Halfway between the fisherman's hut and the architect's villa, it is a refuge for chic Robinsons. We are awakened by the salty air, which rushes through the bay windows opening onto Arcachon Bay. Adventure calls, but you can't resist the urge to stroll in bed, re-reading "Twenty Thousand Places Under the Sea" or "Around the World in 80 Days". In the slightly retro marine atmosphere of the Villa du Cap, one feels like the soul of an explorer… without leaving the Basin.
4pm: Surf session at the Truc Vert
Get on your bike and take the green trail that links the oyster farming village of Piraillan to the Atlantic Ocean, on the other side of the peninsula. Pedal through the pine forest until you reach the dunes of the beach of Trout Vert. An Unmissable surf spot in Ferret, it is also one of the most beautiful beaches in the region. Stick your feet in the fine sand, or take on the swell.
7pm: Aperitif in a tchanque hut
As the sun sets on the Dune du Pilat, on the other side of the basin, an oyster farmer from the region comes to pick you up in a pinasse, directly at the foot of the villa. Embark aboard this traditional vessel, heading to Bird Island. On the way, we discover the secrets of this ancestral profession, delivered by our exceptional guide. Then stop at a Tchanque hut for a tasting of oysters, whelks and Gascon pâté washed down with fresh white wine.
DAY 2: VISIT CAP FERRET FOR ADVENTURERS
In Cap Ferret, we live surrounded by the elements. The foam-laden water of the Atlantic Ocean, the salty sea breeze, the sand punctuated with pine thorns. Play modern day adventurers off the beaten track during these luxury holidays.
8am: Walk in the heart of the bush paths
The peninsula is still asleep as you step through the door. Only the sound of pine thorns cracking under our feet breaks the silence. We have an appointment at the foot of the Cap Ferret lighthouse: there, a local guide awaits us for a timeless stroll. Start on the Ocean side, along the coastal paths, and finish on the Basin side. Push open the doors usually closed to the public, and meet our favorite producers thanks to our guide to Cap Ferret . Among them, Hoki and Matthieu, happy owners of the La Cafouine oyster hut. Located on Canon Beach, this oyster farmer's hut has its feet in the water and its eyes facing Bird Island...
12nn: Picnic in the middle of nowhere
Load your bundle with local products - Aquitaine caviar, freshly caught langoustines accompanied by homemade mayonnaise and for dessert, the unmissable Dunes Blanches from Pascal and set off for a 5-star picnic on the Banc d'Arguin. Warning: you will need to check the tide, because the sea only reveals this little paradise of fine sand when it chooses. We drop anchor at the mouth of the basin, and we end the path with the our feet in the water, to reach this sandbank halfway between Dune du Pilat and the Pointe du Cap. It is a jewel of Cap Ferret that must be visited.
6 pm: the Dune seen from the sky
Wait until golden hour to board a pre-war Stearman and discover the Arcachon Bay as you've never seen it. Experience unique sensations - the salty wind that whips your face, the characteristic scent of oil, the comforting purr of the engine. As we fly over the waves of the blonde sand of Dune du Pilat, caressed by the golden rays of the evening sun, we feel alone in the world. The last men on earth, face to face with the grandiose landscape.
DAY 3: VISIT CAP FERRET FOR FAMILIES
With its kilometers of pine-fringed beaches, Cap Ferret is a plunge head first into the salt water. Here, the days pass slowly, to the rhythm of the tides. Between peaceful mornings on the banks of the Arcachon basin and afternoons in the tumultuous waves of the Atlantic Ocean, Cap Ferret is the ideal destination for luxury holidays in France .
11am: Stopover at the Cap Ferret market
It's the winning combination, the equation that always works: sleep in, breakfast in the sun and market tour. Here, we follow this unconditional holiday ritual with an aperitif in the halls. On the program: tasting oysters and tapas accompanied by a glass of pool rosé, while the children play hide and seek between the colorful stalls. Then, bring in your shopping bag loaded with fresh vegetables and scampi and freshly caught fish to grill on the barbecue.
8 pm: The essential part of your holiday
A luxury break at Cap Ferret would not be complete without a dinner at Hortense .This restaurant welcomes as many curious visitors as locals who are regulars, and is an essential address on the peninsula. People come here for the atmosphere and the friendly decor, in the middle of the vines, but above all for their mussels and fries with sausage meat: a secret recipe shared from generation to generation.
