Only one hour away from Bordeaux and a few hours from Paris, Cap Ferret is the ideal destination for a change of scenery. Not only is the peninsula known for its long white sandy beaches and bike rides along the coastal paths, but it is also a must-see culinary destination. The fame that the best restaurants in Cap Ferret boast goes far beyond the region and matches that of the finest spots of the capital.
Going to the Cap Ferret peninsula means tasting the oysters from the Arcachon Bay. But the regulars can also try the Aquitaine caviar, the snails of the Silver Coast or the foie gras produced in the bay. Whether you want to have a romantic lunch with your feet in the water, dine under the pine trees with friends or have a coffee in the village with your family, the peninsula abounds in good spots and restaurants a few steps away from the water.
In this article, discover our favorite spots and some of the best restaurants Cap Ferret has to offer.
The famous oyster shacks
The oysters of the Arcachon Bay are the unmissable treat during a trip to Cap Ferret. Unlike the Breton oyster, which is flat, the one in the basin is quite hollow. Stroll around the colourful huts, erected since the 60s and which are spread over a dozen oyster-farming districts such as the Canon, the Phare or the Douane.
In the Phare area, stop to taste the oysters of this family of oyster farmers. On the menu you will find shrimps, whelks, oysters and local white wine, all of which are mainly organically grown, which explains the slightly higher than average prices. You can also buy your oysters here, as the restaurant is linked to the family fish shop.

We love the authenticity of this place.

The Cabane d’Hortense is a real gem, equally popular with both the locals and visitors. With a breathtaking view of the Dune of Pilat, people come here to taste oysters but especially the mussels as the family recipe remains a secret. They also come to taste the aubergine dip, the turbot and the crispy fries. La Cabane d’Hortense embodies a purely French atmosphere: we think that this is one of the best restaurants in Cap Ferret.
